New Old Player
Hey, I've been chatting to Rhino about taking part in the hero and Star Trek roleplay sessions. Sorry about my no show last week but I will be there on Saturday.
Is there anything you need from me about my character etc before then?

Re: New Old Player
Hi there, Rom. Long time no see.
We're using a tabletop RPG ruleset for our Star Trek needs (the HERO system 5th edition from Hero Games, which is incidentally the same we're using for Champions).
We do have the following crew already :
Diurne - Lt Riashaala Idisha, Andorian Science Officer
Rhino - Lt Zhen Idisha, Andorian Medical Officer (and cousin of the former)
Seetherius - Cpt Tiron Eks, Trill Command Officer
Marvel - Lt Cmdr Patrick O'Rourke, Human Engineering Officer
All other positions in the crew is occupied by NPCs. So the best is to imagine and create a junior officer at lieutenant rank at best
Typically, I'd need :
- name
- rank
- branch
- general description of physical and intellectual abilities, race if non human
- general or precise description of professionnal skills, personnal talents or knowledges, quirks and so on
- personnality qualities and flaws
I'll create a character from this.
For a Champions character, it's a bit similar even if creativity is easier to translate into game terms (Star Trek is SciFi and is following certain rules when superheroes... not that much).
So a background personnality and a description of powers or heroic abilities is useful.
You can send me a PM or write stuff on the boards

Re: New Old Player
Hi thanks for the welcome. At the moment I can't see the Star Trek threads on the board so I'll post my character here. Hope it's along the right lines.
Name: Gabriel “Gabe” Grant
Rank: Lieutenant
Branch: Tactical officer
Description: Human male, late 20s. Medium height, athletic build with rugged looks, close cropped hair and light beard. Piercing blue eyes. Speaks with Edinburgh accent.
Skills: Marked out as a future diplomat at the academy, usually fair minded and even tempered. Accomplished in hand to hand and weapons combat. Adept at learning languages and can converse in the languages of several races in Star Fleet, including Vulcan, Bajoran and Andorian.
Personality: Confidant and charming. A personal code of honour/sense of nobility has been noted by superior officer which can lead to his heart ruling his head when “protecting the little guy”.
Has an interest in superhero fiction of the 20th and 21st century. Enjoys a holodeck program in which he plays a power suited superhero called Mandate.
In terms of my Champions character I need some advice. There is a traumatic event that leads to him becoming a hero. Should I have this already happened in his background or would that be played out in roleplay sessions?

I have fixed Rom's description. Now it's better fitting.

The Trek section was hidden because it's a side project and not the purpose of those boards (until STO is released maybe ? ).
Ok, I'll make a character from your description.
Some quick questions, still. A tactical officer more versed in starship combat, ground combat, close combat, spec ops or whatever ? What is his specialty ? Or is he an officer with a wide array of skills without full expertise in any ?
About Champions, the traumatic event could be played but since it's your own creation, that's probably something only you can manage.
Aside from that, we're in year 2000 now. So you may want, anyway, this event having happened already. Depends since how much time you see your character as a hero by 2009.

Poor Yaxara. We'll see who is laughing when she reveals all your shameful secrets.

I’d see him as a jack of all trades to start with. But perhaps he could start to specialise in starship combat during the rp sessions and his time with this crew. Ultimately I see him taking command of an Escort starship when the game goes live.

You're running dangerously close that Zhen gets his starfleet licence revoked and as my Starship isn't a place where junk can lay somewhere I have to throw him out, preferable at the next black hole.Diurne wrote:Rhino wrote:Romanov wrote:The only person onboard who he doesn't like is Commander Yaxara Seyler.

I don't see yet the need to open up a complete new forum. Even if the game is launched I remain sceptical if we have to run two forums at all. With the launch of STO we might change the overall theme of this forum to make STO the main game and CO a "holodeck program".Diurne wrote:The Trek section was hidden because it's a side project and not the purpose of those boards (until STO is released maybe ? @Romanov: Welcome to the boards, I have also added you to the closed Star Trek group, so you should be able to read and write there now as well.

Thanks, Mes.
Below is my Champions character. I hope it's not too confusing using versions of the same character for heroics and trekking but he's been on my mind a while and I haven't had chance to play him. Plus I'm not sure Ensign Diablo would be a welcome addition to your starship
Champions Character 2000
Hero Name: Mandate
Age: 28 (in 2000)
Civilian Name: Gabriel Grant
Civilian Occupation: Lawyer, junior partner in Grant Law. Served with the US Marines between College and starting work.
Relatives: Gordon Grant (father), senior partner of Grant Law; Nadine Grant nee Morikawa (wife, deceased*); Gabriel Grant Jnr (son, deceased); Emily Grant (adopted daughter); Graeme Grant (brother)
Reputation: Seen as a crusading white knight in the legal system and has scored several victories against organised crime. Hotly tipped as a future congressman and even president. Serves as legal advisor to several ethical technology companies.
Hero Reputation: Mandate is one of the good guys. He doesn’t kill or use unnecessary force and is admired by other heroes as a leader figure.
Identity: Secret
Appearance: Medium height, athletic build, piercing blue eyes, short, dark brown hair.
Personality: Charming, strong and confident with a sense of chivalry that makes him seem slightly old fashioned. Very loyal and protective, especially of people who are being intimidated or threatened. Occassional quiet or dark times when he remembers his wife and son although he does this behind closed doors. However, a perceptive person will notice a sadness behind the All-American smile.
Powers: Although possessing pro-athlete level fitness and military training experience, Mandate has no superpowers but relies on a hi-tech powersuit. The distinctive gold and black suit is capable of flight and generating force shields. Offensively, the suit generates force blasts to repel, hold and stun opponents.
Backstory: One year ago: Gabriel Grant had it all. He was one of the city’s most respected lawyers, had a beautiful socialite wife and a young son and daughter. But when he took on the 13 Deadly Tigers crime gang he suffered a devastating tragedy. The gang kidnapped his wife and children. He attempted to rescue them but his wife Nadine and young son Gabriel were killed*. His adopted daughter Emily survived the ordeal.
Gabriel Grant has recently returned to work after a year’s absence following the tragedy.
*Nadine Grant was actually a 13 Deadly Tigers sleeper agent. The gang faked her death and she has now reverted to her former identity of the assassin Madame Tigress. She has vowed to kill her former husband. He has only met his nemesis in her Madame Tigress guise and believes his wife to be dead.

Why? Because he is doing his job and captain tries to get every woman onboard in his bed? You're running dangerously close that Zhen gets his starfleet licence revoked and as my Starship isn't a place where junk can lay somewhere I have to throw him out, preferable at the next black hole.
